Jive™ One-Hand Mute
Explore 3D Jive™ Harmonica Mute
This design not only creates fantastic tones, the combination is very easy to manipulate.
The harmonica is held in the conventional manner, sandwiched between the thumb and fore-finger. The Jive™ is attached to the players thumb using an adjustable strap. The Jive™ essentially replaces the player’s bottom hand with a responsive resonating sound chamber. When the top hand is opened, sound travels right over the top of the mute.
Yes, the Jive™ Harmonica Mute is literally an Over The Top™ harmonica mute.
The one hand combination is very easy to control, plus it frees up the second hand for things like using a microphone, playing a second instrument, or passing a hat.
And for the first time, a mute has been designed for slide chromatic harmonicas. The Jive™ Chromatic edition includes the same one hand muting function thus allowing continuous access to the chromatic slide selector.
Jive™ vs dBomb™
The Jive™ is designed to be played with one hand, whereas the dBomb™ requires two hands for variable control. The dBomb™ responds best with harp key C and lower. The Jive™ comes in a number of different sizes to cover the full range of models and keys, including slide chromatic harmonicas.
The following response guide was developed by producing distinct effects at holes 1-6 using the listed harmonica keys (Richter). Naturally, each mute will produce some level effect with any harmonica. Consider the following as the designer’s recommendation.
- dBomb™
- Harp keys LLF-C
- The mute effect becomes increasingly limited to lower holes when higher keys are used.
- Harp keys LLF-C
- Jive™
- Hand: All Keys (simply a bottom hand replacement)
- Treb: C-F
- Mid: A-C
- Bass: LF-A
- Woofer: LLF-G
- Lower key harps respond well with higher Jive™ designs but sound more hollow using the recommended model.
- When higher key harps are combined with lower Jive™ designs, the mute effect becomes increasingly limited to lower holes.
- Jive™ Chromatic
- Chromatic harps G-C
- Lucky 13™ all keys
- Accommodates larger size of the Lucky 13™ and its extra low end notes.
- The range and tone of the Jive™ Chromatic is comparable to the Jive™ Bass. Richter harps will respond at holes 1-6 in the key of A and lower.
- The opening of the Jive™ Chromatic is wider (more oblong) than other Jive™ models.
- Jive Hush™
- Chromatic harps G-C
- Designed with an internal sound diffusing matrix for quiet practicing.
